You have 2 days to register for a postal vote to vote in the upcoming fiscal compact referendum if you cannot get home to vote. You must already be on the register of electors to register for a postal vote.

Fill in this form and have it stamped by the college and send it off.

If you are not yet registered to vote, unfortunately it is too late for a postal vote. If you can get home, there is still time to apply for entry to the supplementary register of electors, which will be published before voting day.

Applications for inclusion on the supplementary register must be received by your local council by Monday 14 May. This is the link to the form which can also be obtained from any city and county council.

The High Court has today ruled against the USI supported case against cuts to student grants. It is not clear yet whether the students will appeal. More info to follow.

I would like to extend the support of IADT Student Union to Pat de Brún and his team in UCD student union. This has been an extremely trying year forUCD Students’ Union, and as many of you are aware, there has been a certain amount of controversy around the UCDSU accounts, and the publishing of their severe debt. Pat de Brún and his team have made some incredibly difficult decisions, and taken a lot of flak for them. It must be remembered that this was not a failing on this year’s union; they merely took the risk of making known the failings and mismanagement of previous year’s unions. Fair play to Pat de Brún and his team.

With exams coming up we know that many students may be feeling under pressure. We (Writing and Research Support Service) can offer individual tutorials or small group sessions on revision, note taking, exam strategy etc.

The WRSS is in the student services room in Carriglea or you can email them on wrss@iadt.ie or phone them on 012394790

If you are a final year student heading into the last couple of months of your course this might be a good time to dust off your old CV and bring it up to graduate level. You never know when you will need it at short notice to apply for a job, internship or postgraduate course.

In the current highly competitive climate your cv needs to be really up to date and relevant. It should also be flexible and adaptable for specific opportunities. It needs to reflect your graduate skills rather than those you developed while at school or while doing a part-time summer job.

 The Careers Service is having a ‘CV Checkup Week’ next week, March 26th – 30th. 

If you want to avail of this opportunity, please read on:
1) Take a good look at the current version of your CV
2) Ask yourself: Does it need a bit of tweaking or major surgery?
3) If you think it only needs minor changes, make the changes and send it to me by e-mail : I’ll take a look at it and either send you my assessment by return of e-mail (if only minor adjustments needed) or invite you to a one-to-one session (if more detailed work required). 

4) If you feel that your cv needs some major surgery (i.e. starting from scratch) and you are not sure where to begin, you can come to a workshop which I will give on Tuesday, March 27th at 1pm in A021 . In this workshop I will bring you through the nuts and bolts of how to put together an adaptable ‘skills-based’ cv.
Following the workshop I will offer individual follow-up sessions to anyone who attends.

I realise that everyone is very busy at this time of the year but a little time and attention spent on your cv at this stage should pay dividends in the longer term.

The USI and MSI are putting on a Mature Students Conference this Saturday from 10.30am-4.30pm in DIT Bolton Street.

You can register for the event now at this link. It is €10 to attend and payment is collected on the day.

On Thursday 22nd/Friday 23rd March, whilst IADT Students will be voting in the SU elections, IADT SU are asking the students to also vote in a preferenda on the USI’s stance on funding for higher education.

In April, delegates from every affiliated college in the country will be asked to take part in a preferenda which will determine the USI’s stance on fees, and we want to take direction directly from the students.

You will be asked to vote in order of preference from 1-6 on 6 different options – full details of which you can find in the document below.
